Re unwed mothers in New France.
In general, did the women raise these children,
or were the children put up for adoption or?
I ask because in Italy, it was required that the women
give these babies up for adoption. Also, this was
done in France. So, I'm wondering if this was the
rule in New France as well.
Thanks,
Lisa

Possibly one reason why there is so much unkown children in the parish
is that the "Hôpital de la Miséricorde" is situated in that parrish.
This hospital was held by nuns and was specialised in helping
unmarried women to have their children.
St-Jacqus st. was at the corner of Ste-Catherine st and St-Denis st,
and the Hospilal at the corner of René Lévesque (Dorchester) and St-
Hubert st. in Montréal.
For you information.
