Re: Age of majority Quebec

by edsmail@[EMAIL PROTECTED] Feb 4, 2008 at 05:30 AM

I am looking at age of majority, not the minimum ages for marriage. But
both of those standards did vary over the life of the colonies. I
remember
reading somewhere some years ago now that, in the early days of the
(French)
colony, the age of majority was 23 for men and 21 for women. Then it
changed to 21 for both (I believe) for many years and eventually to 18.
I'm
trying to confirm what the ages were and approx when they changed - did
the
change to an English colony have any effect, for instance, or did it
precede
1763? And when did 18 become law?
