Yes, I am familiar with this site. However, I believe it is only 
searchable by current-day placenames.

Sometimes there are notes accompanying the place descriptions that give 
the origins of the place. Occasionally it notes that the place was 
renamed from some earlier name. However, you can't globally search the 
notes for a specific 'earlier name'.
