See the english Wikipedia, keyword "Gregorian calendar". It says that 
the catholic parts of Germany adopted the Gregorian calendar earlier 
than the protestant parts, but that in 1700, it was introduced in the 
protestant parts as well. So for "our" year 1724, I don't see a chance 
that the date could be Iulian.
