Before 1871 Prussia was an independent country. After the German
unification in 1871 Prussia became one of (and probably the most
powerful of) the states of Germany. Even after 1871 Prussia remained
the "preeminent" German state, as the King of Prussia by default was
the King (Kaiser) of Germany. The state of Prussia was dismantled
after WWI because it was consider too powerful and too militaristic.
Preussen is simply the German name for Prussia.
