familysearch.org is developing new projects and sites, and here are
two recent ones you will be interested in. One started just today.
http://wiki.familysearch.org/
A wiki-style site where you can edit and contribute to any article, if
you have used Wikipedia, this will be familiar to you. Locality-
based, this is in its early stages, so content for your localities may
not be on the site there yet.
So if you know about records, where they are, how to use them, useful
websites, etc., you can post them there for people to see and use.
Not a place for surname-related articles, but for locality and record
type articles.

This is very new, so if you don't find a forum for what you are
looking for, that is why, but they have been adding things all day and
will add more in the days and months ahead.
A surname inquiry led off the posting there. But this will be for
much more than that when it comes to looking up records, researching,
etc., and it is also open for registration and contributing now.
The wiki has over 1,000 registered users now, the forums have very few
users having been opened today. But you have to register on each
separately, although they eventually will have a unified/consolidated
single signon capability down the road.
