It looks like the word that begins with E is probably "Entbindung" which
means childbirth.

Dear Listers,
Yesterday I worked with the microfilm of church records from Groß
Gronau, Schleswig Holstein. The death record I'm having trouble with is
for a woman who died ten days after giving birth to twins. I am familiar
with the word Wochenfieber, and this is not it. I can't find any words
in Thode that work. The word with four letters could be "hegs" but that
is a stretch.
My transliteration so far:
23 November 1868, Catharine Marie Elisabeth Koch, geb. Steffan, Ehefrau
des Krügers Jakob Ludwig Jochen Koch in Groß Sarau, starb in _ _ _ _ des
E_ _kindung, begraben des 27sten November. Alters 32 J. 9 M. 18 Tage.
Translation:
23 November 1868, Catharine Marie Elisabeth Koch, geb. Steffan, wife of
the Innkeeper Jakob Ludwig Jochen Koch in Groß Sarau, died in _ _ _ _ of
[this surely has somthing to do with childbirth], buried 27th November,
age 32 years, 9 months, 18 days.
Any ideas? I'll be glad to send a scan.
Lila
