Holland, East Prussia?

If someone was born in East Prussia, his mother was born in Buchwald, why 
would her son say the birth place was Holland? It is my grandmother and
her 
maiden name was Blumberg. I keep finding conflicting information.
If someone would care to venture a guess, I would appreciate it.
