Once there lived the count Axel von Fersen, favorite
of queen Marie-Antoinette.
I checked from genealogies, and it kis obvious that
the name axel comes to the Fersen family as heirloom
from fiel Marshal, count Axel Wachtmeister, 1st count
of Mälsåker, who was father of countess Eleonora
Margareta Wachtmeister, who married count Fersen.
The name Axel was in frequent use in the previous
century in the Wachtmeister family, its first recorded
bearer there having been a younger son of Hannu, the
first ennobled Wachtmeister, and his wife lady Beata
Eerikintytär of the steeled hand, heiress of
Brödstorp, from Finland.
Where did the name come from, to the Wachtmeister
family of early 1600s?
