First marriage of William Cope

by taf@[EMAIL PROTECTED] May 7, 2008 at 06:57 AM

The 1564 Visitation of Northumberland re****ts that William Cope of
Banbury, Oxon., Esq. "cofferer to K. Henry 7" married first _____, and
had issue Stephen, then married Joan, daughter of John Spencer of
Hodnell. When published a series of additional pedigrees were
included and one of these shows this first wife to be Barbara,
daughter of George Quarles of Ufford, Northants., yet all over the
internet, she is shown as Agnes, daughter of Sir Robert Harcourt of
Stanton. While the latter are inherently unreliable, no details are
given on the published pedigree to enable its reliability to be
evaluated.

Is anyone familiar with a scholarly analysis of this family that might
resolve the apparent conflict?
