Re: Sir Robert de Holand and his wife, Maud la Zouche

Oh, I get it.... :)

Well, to get back to serious genealogy I thought I would add to this
chain of postings that I am a descendant of Sir Robert de Holand and his
wife Maud la Zouche through their daughter Maud who married Thomas
Synnnerton. So, since I just joined the list this is my second posting.

Why don't you tell us about them.

This list is different in its configuration than the others to which
you have subscribed. Without going into details, due to its
configuration no one can be prevented from posting anything they
want. The Listowners can request, demand, and browbeat, but they have
no power of enforcement. Thus we even have one poster who tries,
usually unsuccessfully, to make serious on-topic contributions under
one email address, and spouts utter gibberish from another, and there
is nothing that can be done about it.

The result is a group in which civil discourse depends on a shared
respect for the group. When someone doesn't respect the group, people
usually 'remind' them, and these 'reminders' can tend to be a bit
rough at times, particularly with repeat offenders. (Of course, then
the posters of the 'reminders' in turn get told that they are out of
line. It tends to give regulars a bit of a thick skin.) However, the
roughness is reserved for the offenders, and you need not fear the
same treatment.

For better or worse, that is the nature of this group, and it has been
like this, off and on, for over a decade. There is value to be had
here, but the cost is that you have to have a little bit of tolerance
for witnessing some rough and tumble.

That being said, if you want to distract the group from the
unpleasantness, then give them some real medieval genealogy to chew
on.

(For the sake of full disclosure, I should reveal that, while I am not
currently on duty, I share Listowning responsibilities. If you wish to
discuss the situation more, then please contact me privately.)
