Egypt-Mummy DNA
CAIRO, Egypt (AP) - Egypt's antiquities chief says there are plans to
conduct a DNA test on a 3,500-year-old mummy to determine if it is
King Thutmose I -- 1 of the most im****tant of the pharaohs.
The Middle East News Agency re****ts the DNA test and an X-ray will be
carried out on a mummy found at the site of ancient Thebes on the west
bank of the Nile, what is today Luxor's Valley of the Kings.
The antiquities official says a mummy on display in the Egyptian
Museum that was pur****ted for many years to be Thutmose I was not
actually the ancient ruler's remains.
Egypt has acquired a $5 million DNA lab, funded by the Discovery
Channel, which has become a centerpiece of an ambitious plan to
identify mummies and re-examine the royal mummy collection.

Egypt Plans DNA Testing on 3,500-year-old Mummy
Atlanta, GA 5/29/2008 10:47 PM GMT (TransWorldNews)
Egypt plans to conduct a DNA test on a 3,500-year-old mummy to
determine if the remains are those of King Thutmose I.
Funded by the Disney Channel, a $5 million DNA lab was acquired to aid
Egypt=92s efforts in the identification of mummies.
The 3,500-year-old mummy believed to be Thutmose I will be removed
from its tomb in Luxor=92s Valley of the Kings and flown to the Egyptian
Museum in Cairo where DNA testing will begin Friday.
Egypt=92s antiquities chief, Zahi Hawass, insisted the DNA testing on
Egyptian mummies be performed by Egyptian experts. Results of the
findings may not be made public as Hawass has cited grounds of
national security around the information.
