Re: Comyn and Dinely / Dingley

Dear Paul, Doug Smith and Douglas,
                                                        For what it may be

worth, I think the John Comyn of Morton Underhill with wife Joan who
held
Morton Underhill in 1338 was the same John Comyn of la Wold who had an
assize of
mort dancester (claim because the property belonged to an ancestor) filed

againest the Abbott of Malmesbury abbey and further held the manor of
Newbold
Comyn, Warwick with an additiomal interest in Avon Dassett (part of the
Fonthill Giffard inheritance) with He transmitted to Thomas West
(ancestor of
Lord Delaware) and thus apparently connected probably through John and
Amabilia
of about 1240 through Elias Comyn who married Joan the heiress of Newbold
(?
Verdun) and was likely a younger son (or a nephew) of the William Comyn,
Lord
of Snitterfield, Warwick died 1213 married Margery NN, married 2nd 1216,
William de Hastings (died by 1220(, 3rd William Hose by 1220, William
and
Margery`s son William Comyn died 1223/4, Lord of Snitterfield married in

Scotland Eve NN who married 1224 John de Mar(a) [ unsure if a scion of
the comital
house of Mar] who brought suit in 1224/5 againest John d`Abitot, 2nd
husband of Margery (Fitz William of Hatton) de Clinton, who was heir to
the feofee
rifghts over Snitterfield which Roger, Earl of Warwick had granted Hugh

Fitz richard of Hatton who in turn enfeoffed William Comyn (probably the

sometime Deacon of Worcester), who was succeeded as lord of Snitterfield
by his
eldest surviving nephew Walter Comyn in 1158/9 , which Walter (died after
1179
when He held the advowson Avon Dassetton (See VCH Warwick****re on-line)
was
apparently married to a daughter of Hugh Fitz pinton and apparently
father of
the William Comyn who died 1213 above. John d`Abitot was witholding
Eve`s
widow`s 1/3 ****tion of Snitterfield manor, He replied She was supposed
to
give him custody of the heir and She told him the heir was in Scotland
and had
never been in her and John de Mara`s custody. d`Abitot then released her
dower to her. So either 1) William had children by an earler wife , 2)
Margery
Comyn who wed John de Montacute wasn`t her daughter, 3) there was a
entail to
heirs male on Snitterfield which was either resolved or ignored.
                             Sincerely,
                                             James W ***mings
                                             Dixmont, Maine USA
