Dear James Dempster,
Thank You for copying the list from
Nisbet`s Haraldry pp 56-57. As to Jordan / Jardine, 2nd son of William
Comyn,
Earl of Buchan grantuing him Inverallochy, He couldn`t at any point after
1233.
asa to the Ross marriage, if Margaret was a daughter of William , 2nd
Earl of
Ross it had to have been of a marriage prior to that Earl`s marriage to
Jordan`s full sister Jean I think it likelier Margaret was William`s
sister and
so a daughter of William`s father Earl Ferquard of Ross.: Note on the
name "
Jordan" It seems that John Comyn , Archbishop of Dublin (died 1212) had
a
bastard son named Jordan who became possessed of certain lands in
Offally
which passed to a Maurice Comyn who was indicted for the murder of King
Henry
III of England `s agent within the church Henry Clement in the 1240s He
was a
prisoner in the tower of London for three years later, Comyn relative
William de Marisco was drawn , quartered and beheaded. Jordan received
Inverallochy in 1270 from his 1/2 brother Earl Alexander of Buchan..
William . 3rd
laird of Inverallochy and 2nd of Culter is likelier to have married A
daughter
of " Good" Sir James Douglas, lord of Nithsdale (died 1330) than of his
grand
nephew Earl James of Douglas (died 1388), then again, Maejory Douglas`
grandson William Comyn, 5th of Inverallochy and 4th of Culter died after
January
1480.
Sincerely,
James W ***mings
