There were situations where a child was not baptised for perhaps up to
a month, but in general, in this period as a parent you are faced with
the concept of limbo.

You child, if they die, unbaptised, goes to "limbo" for eternity.  No
heaven for that unbaptised child.

So parents tended to baptise their children rather quickly.
