So the "Tolderby" marriage claimed by the Prences of Plymouth may
reflect badly on that family, rather than on the Princes of Hull.
Still, I'm very uncertain about this. I think the Rev. Thomas Prince
(of the Hull family), who claimed his grandfather was Rev. John Prince
of Little Shefford, was a bit of a social climber.

notes that "the pedigree chart, included within the New England
Historic & Genealogical Register, Vo. 6:375, and compiled from papers
left by Rev. Thomas Prince shows Francis (replacing Anthony), merchant
of London, and seven unnamed daughters!"
Well, checking the extracted IGI for East Shefford, Berks., we find:
--Edward Prince, son of John and Elizabeth, born 7 Nov., bapt. 24 Nov.
1622
--George Prince, son of John and Elizabeth, born 4 Feb., bapt. 11 Feb.
1626
--Katherine Prince, dau. of John and Elizabeth, bapt. 26 July 1629
--Marie Prince, dau. of John and Elizabeth, bapt. 26 Sept. 1630
and for Great Shefford, Berks,
--Joane Prince, dau. of John and Elizabeth, bapt. 9 Oct. 1614
--Dorothye Prince, dau. of John and Elizabeth, bapt. 2 March 1615
--Ursula Prynce, dau. of John and Elizabeth, bapt. Feb. 1619
Assuming for the sake of argument that there _was_ actually an elder
son John, bapt. 1611, this gives three sons--John, Edward, and George--
none of whom is named Francis (or Anthony, for that matter). And the
number of daughters doesn't match either.
I wonder if the Oxford University records actually show a John Prince
who matriculated in the late 1620s and did not complete his degree?
Something seems "off" about it all ...
