Robert L. Ward's interesting article on the noble medieval ancestry of
Henry Sampson of the Mayflower ("The Baronial Ancestry of Henry
Sampson, Humility Cooper, and Ann (Cooper) Tilley," _The Genealogist_,
6 (1985): 166-86, twice mentions doubts about the ultimate fate of one
of the ancestresses, Edith, daughter of Sir Nicholas Latimer:
p. 173: "Edith (Latimer) (Greene) Mordaunt, left a widow in 1504, is
said to have married (3) either Sir Thomas Carew of Devon, slain 1512,
or Sir John Carew, Kt."
p. 174: "A preliminary search has not identified the Clifford husband
of Cicely (Greene) (Clifford) Page or the Carew husband of Edith
(Latimer) (Greene) (Mordaunt) Carew."
The source below shows Edith's last husband as Sir John Carew and that
she must have died in early 1518, leaving a P.C.C. will mentioning
among other persons her daughter Cicely Page (who was the ancestress
of Henry Sampson):
