If you 'know' you're looking for a specific database, you are better
off NOT doing a general search. Just go to the 1840 census and
search 'that' database. You'll only get hits for that specific set
of records ... not all of the other 'junk'.

Why don't you join as a volunteer? Things will become available
sooner when more people get involved. Info is available at

If you want to search, you have to register. A simple procedure, and
it's free. They have nearly 90% of the 1900 census available to
search (with linked images), among other things. It is a little
slow loading, and anything saved is in jpg format. But for free ....
who can really complain.
