I don't like the fact that wanting to remain anonymous was made the
DEFAULT setting when this new Connection Broker service was
launched--not on a genealogy site where most people WANT to hear
from others. I have no objection to the service being offererd--but
it shouldn't have been made the default for all existing users.
Ancestry subscribers don't have to pay anything extra to use the
Connection Broker service but non-subscribers do.
There is a simple way to change the setting yourself so that your
address is encrypted but accessible when someone tries to contact
you WITHOUT their having to use the connection service. Go to the
main Ancestry page:
http://www.ancestry.com/
and click on COMMUNITY in the top masthead. On the landing page
click on MY SITE PREFERENCES in the upper right section of the page.
Check off the box marked:
Display my email address to other members.
Also place check marks in the boxes below where it says: Allow other
members to contact me about...
