Assuming you are a male, if YOU had Y DNA testing done the test
would show your Father's Father's Father's (and on back on the male
side) ancestry. YOU could be tested for mtDNA also, and it WOULD
show what you inherited from your mother. So ONLY IF the Cherokee
inheritance comes from your mother's mother's mother's side (all
straight back on the female side) would it show up in mtDNA testing.
If your CHILDREN were tested, nothing from your mother's mtDNA would
show up in their testing. Only THEIR mother's mtDNA would be in the
testing results. Male children tested using a Y DNA test would only
show the paternal ancestry--nothing from your mother's side. While
male children inherit mtDNA from their mothers it isn't passed down
to THEIR children.
