The same set of past events affected history on all levels so
there's no particular reason why one would write a book specifically
dealing with events which would affect family history.

I suspect that what you're looking for is *local* history.  If
that's the case then you would have to try bookshops in the area
concerned. Even then you may have to read between the lines - big
events might be covered but not the insidious consequences.  As an
example in the 1851 UK census my g-grandfather is listed as living
with his half-brother and family.  The following year the valley
below them was flooded by the bursting of the Bilberry dam.  This
event is well chronicled, loss of life, destruction of property etc.
 There are contem****ary published accounts and these are re-hashed
any time a local history book is published.  I even have a momento
in the form of a tea caddy said to have been fished out of the
aftermath some miles downstream by one of my mother's family.  But
is there any connection with the fact that a year or so after the
flood the half-brother and his family emigrated to Chicago?  It
would be interesting to know the economic consequences of the flood
but I've seen nothing on that.
