It is a matter of time !  Louisiana, until 1765, was part of Canada
(a.k.a. New France until the 1763 treaty).  To avoid giving Louisiana
to England, the French gave it (in a secret treaty) to Spain, this to
explain the 1765 date.  That Louisiana of before 1765 included all the
Mississippi Valley, i.e. Arkansas Post.  So Arkansas are historically
a part of Canada (not a "province" because the word province was used
by the English only after 1763 for Canada).  To make things more
confusing, the area named "Province of Quebec" or actually the
province of the government of Quebec from 1763 to I think 1791 was
running to Detroit.  So Detroit was in Quebec for some time...
