Writing books -- which I've done for the last 35 years
now seems terribly old fa****oned. When people want to learn
about computers or other topics now, they search for free info
on the Internet or just ask friends for help. So why buy a book?

Our books are carefully edited to teach you fast. They're
organized to present you info in the best way, which you can't
get by staring at a friend's face or computer screen, even if the
screen is huge.
If you're trying to learn Windows Vista & Office 2007 and
think you can just rely on your knowledge of earlier software,
you'll be surprised! For example:
Windows Vista has no button labeled "Start." Windows Vista's Start menu
shows no button labeled "Shut Down." and the unlabeled button that seems
to be a Shut Down button is actually just hibernate button. Instead, the
"Shut Down" choice is hidden under an unlabeled right arrow. If you try to
defrag your hard drive, the computer will just sit there, with an
unchanged
screen and no progress indicator. Also, Windows Vista clutters your screen
with annoying buttons called "gadgets"' the way to hide them isn't
obvious.
The first time you use Office 2007, you see no button labeled "Open" or
"Print". Instead, those functions are hidden in a menu that emanates from
the Office button, which is unlabeled and looks like just a decoration.
Office 2007 has no menu bar and no toolbars; instead, it has a tabbed
ribbon.
