HOURS OF WORK: 37.5 per week ,
including nights and weekends as necessary

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
.. Under direction of the Director of Libraries,
manage day-to-day operations of the
public service components of all library services
.. Plan and implement programs and services to address community needs
.. With Assistant Director for Human Resources,
shares responsibility for all library functions
in the absence of the Library Director
.. Work with main and branch library staff to evaluate and
improve efficiency and effectiveness of Library
.. Implement major program initiatives in cooperation with branches
and main Library departments
.. Coordinate with Facilities Manager and branch managers to ensure
that all libraries are well maintained, attractive and safe
.. Convene regular meetings of branch librarians and department heads
to ensure that areas of common concern are addressed
.. Evaluate employee performance,
recommend remedial assistance,
disciplinary action, and
merit or position upgrades
.. Interpret library and city policies for library staff and the public
.. Represent the Library at major events and regional meetings

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
.. A broad background in librarian****p
.. Demonstrated organizational and managerial skills necessary to lead,
manage and motivate staff
.. Knowledge of human resources management principles and practices
.. Experience developing creative and innovative programs and services
.. Excellent problem solving skills

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
.. A bachelors degree from a recognized college or university
.. A masters degree from an accredited graduate school of library and
information science
.. A minimum of seven years of successful professional work,
at least five of which have been in a position of
administrative responsibility
.. Public library experience preferred
.. In exceptional instances, specialized education, training, and/or
experience may be substituted for part of the education requirement
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
.. Physically able to operate a variety of machinery and equipment
including office equipment such as computers, calculators, copiers,
and facsimile machines
.. Ability to sit and use computer workstation, including keyboard and
visual display terminal, for extended periods of time
.. Must be able to pay close attention to details
and concentrate on work
.. Time management ability to set priorities
in order to meet assignment deadlines
.. Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing or other
communication capabilities, with or without reasonable

RATE: $ 76,267 to $90,934 in seven steps + excellent benefits
